Though it is not the music journalism powerhouse it was when Lester Bangs’ writing was often more entertaining than the music he reviewed and a teenage Cameron Crowe was covering bands on tour (as chronicled in his movie, Almost Famous), this elder statesmen pop periodical still covers mainstream music like no other and a positive write up in its pages is enough to make the industry take notice.
