questionmark2

I always know what to say because other people are paid to put words in my mouth. I’m also given the perfect thing to wear and my hair is always just right, too. If the light doesn’t hit me a certain way, it’s someone else’s fault, unless I haven’t hit my mark, in which case, it’s “Cut! Let’s go again! Back to one!”

Some people think my job is easy, but try being someone else in front of a busy crew of strangers, always having to deliver the emotional goods, not to mention the right lines and blocking, take after take.

questionmark2

I want you to hear the songs I represent during your favorite movies and TV shows, such during a key moment between Bella and Edward or right after McDreamy loses a patient. In a world of increasing digital sharing, decreasing music sales, and a flood of new music constantly entering the market, my job is pivotal in making my company profitable, and maximizing interest in the music it produces.

questionmark2

I am the best, but there are two of me on every crew. I stand by my leader, second-in-command, to execute his directives. I keep things running on the set each day, including making sure we have the right people and the right number of people and the right equipment and right amount of equipment to get the job(s) done. If I wasn’t there, it would probably be a pretty dark set and the camera wouldn’t get anywhere either.

I don’t get to pick what movie is made or who stars or what it is called or when it is released, but it is all mine. I care about awareness and likelihood and key demographics and test screening results. I agonize over one sheets and teasers and trailers and TV spots and banner ads and every other element of the campaign to get those seats filled on the theater opening weekend and beyond. Because the Monday after a release is a mightly long and painful day if no one comes to see my movie.

I am the VP, Marketing at a film studio.
