I am one of the leaders of the army that is a film or TV crew. I command with a walkie talkie and sometimes a megaphone. I make sure that everyone is where they are supposed to be, that people are fed and wrapped for the day when they are supposed to be, and that, in the best of times, come rain or shine, we get all of the shots we have scheduled for the day. I sometimes say “Action” and “Cut,” but I am not the director.

I am the Assistant Director, or AD.

I am the first person working in the morning and the last to put my head on the pillow. I direct traffic, convey messages, help with paperwork, run errands. I am constantly on my feet, often wearing a headset, following instructions to the letter, going that extra mile. You may not notice me, but I am there to stand out (for all the right reasons). I am still just happy to be there, to be a part of the team, but I am also eager to move up the ladder to the next rung.

I am the Set Production Assistant.
